根据我国的地理位置，卡航线路大体分为：港澳线、东盟线、中亚线、中欧线、中俄线。面向蒙古和俄罗斯的北部口岸，集中在黑吉辽和内蒙；面向东盟的南部口岸，主要集中在两广和云南；面向中亚和欧洲的西部口岸发展尤其迅速，主要在新疆和西藏。
我国有75个一类公路口岸，大部分在国境交界的省市，目前开放并稳定进出货的公路口岸有40多个 。近两年卡航运输发展迅猛，各个口岸运输量轮番突破。
